5 Mistakes to avoid when choosing a kitchen designer

Choosing the right kitchen designer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when renovating your home. It’s a significant investment – both financially and emotionally – so getting it right is crucial.

With so many options available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The right company can bring your vision to life, but the wrong choice could lead to stress and disappointment. To help you make the best decision, here are 5 common mistakes to avoid when choosing a kitchen designer:

1. Falling for false discounts

Unfortunately, offers such as ‘50% off’ and ‘free fitting’ simply are not true. Some companies use these enticing deals and sales tactics to lure customers in.

It is well known within the kitchen industry that these ‘offers’ are made up. Please be cautious and avoid being misled.

2. Lack of communication

Avoid designers who lack transparency or fail to listen to your input and concerns. Look for a designer who values open dialogue, is honest with you and actively involves you in decision-making. After all, it’s your kitchen!
If you’ve had a couple of different designs from the same designer but you’re just not clicking with any of them, this is a strong sign that you’re not being listened to.

3. Overlooking portfolio and reviews

Take a thorough look through their portfolio and customer reviews. The best kitchen design companies are proud of their projects and will regularly update their portfolio with their latest projects and frequently receive positive reviews. These two elements serve as reliable indicators of what to expect.

Martin Wilson

★★★★★

Fantastic installation from design to in our home. Professional company with expert installers. Used before and would not hesitate to use again. Always prompt turning up. No mess and we now have all the storage we need.

4. Quantity over quality

If you’re looking for a well-designed, high-quality kitchen, we highly recommend choosing an independent kitchen design company.

Large chain businesses tend to operate on a volume-based model, prioritising quantity over quality, often to meet sales targets.

You want to make sure that your kitchen designer’s job is just that – a designer, not a salesperson.

5. Succumbing to pressure

Designing your new kitchen should be an enjoyable process. Unfortunately, you may come across some companies that pressure you into making hasty decisions or demand deposits before you are fully ready.

You should only ever leave a deposit in your own time when you are 100% happy with your new kitchen design. Take your time to explore your options.
